Saturday School

What is your opinion about China's educational system, Saturday school plan, in comparison to the United States?  How do you believe a 4 day school week would impact education?  Discuss the impact  on education if we added Saturday school?

This article is due October 7th.

a 4 day school week would impact our education by we would not learn as much as a five day school week because we will have to do a lot more work in one day to learn the same amount in a five day school week...we would most likely forget half it. if we added saturday school nobody would come because that is a day we get a brake off of school. and to take that away would make kids upset.

4 day week would impact our learning alot i think. The teachers wouldn't get to teach everything because the shortage of time. And i think the Saturday school is a little too much. The only way I'd agree with that is if the students got out earlier than usual at the end of the year. But i'd prefer to stay at the 5 days a week for school, because it's not too bad to go to school 5 days a week but as i student i really look forward to my weekend.

it would hurt us very bad because we would never learn anything in school then their would be no point in school

a 4day school week would not be good people would not learn as much and some would just give up that would mean a increase in the number of dropouts which would mean worser things because some people need the extra day

wyattc27 said...

i think the 4 day week would be great, it would give us a little break from all the work, i mean we work a lot so i think we should be able to at least get an extra day off. this would also help the teachers out by giving them an extra day to catch up and grade papers and make a new lesson plan for the next week. But if we added saturday school it would be pointless because thats when most people go out and do things with friends and family they wouldn't want to show up at school plus teachers wouldn't want to come in on a saturday to teach kids.

rkessler13 said...

A 4 day week would be a big impact because then the teachers would not have enough time to teach us everything that we need to know. Also, that if the school week would change to 4 days then the school year would last even longer because we would have to go more in the summer. A 6 day school week would be over doing it because then we would too much time in a classroom. Maybe, with the 6 day school week we might get out of school earlier in the summer too.

chanel white said...

A four day school week would impact our learning as much as a five day school week, because there wouldn't be as much time. We'd have a lot more work to do EVERYDAY. And the saturday school is extra... We wouldn't have no type of weekend to our self. I like things just the way they are. It would be a different story if us students would get out earlier than we do now, but we don't.

I think that the writer doesn't give us enough credit. America is still one of the leading nations of the world. The writer stated we need more school so we don't get in trouble? Thats ignorant thinking. I am personally okay with the five day a week schedule.

Andrew Gentry4 said...

If we were to have a Saturday school in America it would effect us in a bad way. We would just have more problems with children skipping class because it would just be to much on are shoulders. I believe now we do not have enough time with just a 2 day weekend. There would be a lot of drop outs and people just a lot of trouble with kids and parents as well.

beckylykins said...

I think that a 4 day school week could impact students not in a good way. I believe that if kids go to school 1 day less, that kid wouldn't be learning to their full potential. Teachers wouldn't have as much time to teach everything. And China's educational system is working way better than ours if they keep out scoring us in every test. Maybe we should go the same amount of time as they do. If we added Saturday school to the school system, I feel our kids would be more stressed, but they would learn way more. I think they should just add one more hour or two to the school day and it would even out to if we had Saturday.

a.hatton3 said...

a 4 day week would make a students and a teachers life more stressful because we would be cramming things into are day instead of spreading them ot threw the week teachers would have to plan like 2 lessons for 1 day in order for us to learn everything we learnt during a 5day week not saying it couldnt be done but it would just be an unnessary stress added to students and teachers.

Pat Pat Hill 5 said...

i think having a 4 days week would impact our learning greatly . honestly i think more people would learn less because we would be overwhelmed with homework & tests . plus i think there would be more skipping of school because people would get tired of the hetic school work .

Kiara Williams P.5(KNOWSHECUTE_xo) said...

A four day week to me isn't enough education, We need everyday of the week to learn what we can. Their school system in comparison to ours is way different & maybe their method works for them & ours work for us. Im used to getting Saturday & Sunday's off. There would be a major impact if we added Saturday's. Not only do we need the rest but we're adjusted to the 5 day school week .

marquise5 said...

A 4 day school week would be great but it would effect the students learning. But it really wouldnt make a difference all the teachers would have to do is squeeze everything in to a 4 day week schedule... S/O to my Taylor's TGOD

mknight5 said...

i think a four day school week would impact our education because we wouldnt learn as much because the teachers would rush to try and teach us everything and we would get confused and just forget everything. and school on saturday would not happen because nobody would show up because thats one day we can do what we want and not have to come to school.

AntonioW5th said...

I don't really care about China's school system, due to the fact that I'm not living there. But in comparison to the school systems in the United states, Saturday school isn't really worth it and for as the 4 day school week. I think if we added a Saturday school, our education wouldn't be impacted, it would just be an extra day of school.

kenyap,5 said...

The 4 day school week wound impact our learning schedule. The teachers would not be able to the there point across a certain subject. Also they would have to move at a faster pace and some kids do not catch on that easy. It would be different if the students got out earlier. Plus it would be more homework and that would not work out with me cuz I already get enough!!!!!

Tiara Coldiron 5 said...

I think that a four day week will impact us because we wouldn't get to learn as much as we do now and it would just make us have to learn way more in that day the what we have to. We wouldn't be able to remember some of the things. I think that we shouldn't have to come to school on Saturdays because that gives us at least one day to have fun and not worry about school and that kind of stuff.

Austen Moore #5 said...

I think that a 4 day weekend good, but then it wouldn't benefit none. My reasoning is that people are going to be tired and, really people in reality won't really be phased my this type of movement. It's good to try something new but what if people start skipping school. Then, what now more and more people will skip will skip. But i won't haha.... It not really a good movement.

TShields5 said...

A 4 day week would be great for schools but it can also be wrong for others because some school teachers would have problems teaching students at a four day period.

brooke wolfe5 said...

a 4 day week would not be a good idea, if they did that then they would either have to try & teach us a lot more stuff in one day, or just teach us the same amount & we wouldn't learn as much as we do in one week, but would love to come to school for only 4 days. A 5 day school week, i think is too much.. some kids would probably get sick of school & just not come that extra day. I do agree that we would learn more with going a sixth day, but i don't think anybody would like that. If that were to happen then, we should be able to get out of school earlier for summer break & get a longer one.

elizabeth martinez5 said...

I think a 4 day school week would impact are education because we would have to work harder and faster then a 5 day school week. Due work, test due and study more no that will kill are education i think its better if we had more school days.

Stacy Mullins6 said...

4 day week would be good, we would still learn and be educated plus have more free time to be kids. Saturday school would not be a good idea because most kids wouldn't come and it's to much.

DENARIUS DEAN6 said...

that wold not help that would just make us not do nothing wan we get there that one of the days wan we can set bake in just have to cool off if we need it so having school on saturday will not do nothing but make ore grade go down for all the sufe we have to no

LanceJohnson6 said...

I think the 4 day school week would not work out as much because we would not learn as much or get anything done with out that extra day in school. and if we had a saturday school i think no one would come to school. because thats peoples time to sleep in and there free time..

Stacy Mullins6 said...

a 4 day week would impact the education of the students. By having a 5 day school day we would learn a lot more instead of a 4 day week.

donaldcrew6 said...

i would enjoy a 4 day week of school but that would be less time to see my friends and talk to people i would be bored at home.School on saturday would be good because we would be able to see more people but i like to sleep in on saturday.

JuliusWilliams6 said...

A 4 day school week would impact us a lot but a rather not have a saturday school because that's the weekend , that's our time to relax and not have to worry about school because that would just be too much school.

Kelley Mae 6 said...

I think a four day week wouldn't be that bad. But that means that we will have to put in more effort. Some people may not learn as much either because they would need more time. I'm pretty sure if we had Saturday school, no one would attend but only a few. Some people may not take things so serious as some of us do now.

Dineesia Mack 6 said...

If we had a four day school week wouldn't be a very good thing at all. we wouldn't learn anything at all. We would have a lot of homework and projects and not even know exactly what we are doing at all.

If we had school on saturday nobody would come because thats the time we usually have plans and we hang with our family and things. that is also doing a little bit to much and we would only get out of school for sundays and some kids go to Church and have to go to Sunday school and stuff like that.

Austin.Reece6 said...

I think it makes no difference on how many days a week we go to school. Its the effort as an we, an individual put into wanting to learn. If we went to school 7 days a week and, if someone didnt want to learn, then they just wouldnt. If someone came to school 1 day a week and put 110% effort into learning and not goofed around, they really would learn something. I think if we went to school 4 days a week it would less and we would just try harder.

chelseadanielle13 said...

a 4 day week would impact our education, we wouldnt learn as much an i think if they added saturday it would be horrible because nobody would come and nobody would have anything to look forward to ( the weekend)

skate4life said...

a 4 day week would impact our learning not much mostly not at all because we really wouldnt be able to remember all that stuff because it would be more learning that we would have to do the same amount of work but in less days and i think that would just put way too much stress on kids.

soniajuarez6 said...

i think that having a four day week of school, wouldnt affect the smart people, but it would affect the people thats not that smart and that needs more time to learn stuff because not everybody is the same what someone might learn in 2 days others might learn it in 3. or if we are going to have a four day school week then i would add more hours to the school days.

logansturgell said...

in my opinion the writer is a complete nut , more school would mean more trouble . keep it a 5 day school week because if not the teachers may start getting frustrated with not being able to teach as much and a 6 day school week is doing to much .

i dont like the fact of having school on saturday but i do think that a four day week could have its advantages and disadvantages. i think it would help kids have a better atendance and they would have a extra day to do homework or sleep so there caught up on sleep. but also you probly wouldnt learn as much as a five day school week.

alex peguero4 said...

i dont agree because because i mean they got to rest thats why they give us the weekend well i thing thats madnes having school on a saterday i feel sorry for them

A 4 day week would hurtus. even though it would be really cool it wouldnt help just harm us. if we added a day it might help us. kids in a america just need to te school serious. maybe its just the school in now that i feel like no one takes it serious. but other schools around the wrld take i verys serious. thats why china is smarter then us in the U.S.

stephanieparker3 said...

I think that it is crazy tha kids in China go to school on Saturdays. I enjoy having a break and getting rest. I think that a 4 day week would be great because usally by the end of the week I am so tired and unfocused that I barely learn anything and I end up behind in all my classes. But if we did have a 4 day week I feel like not that many people would take it seriously and we would not learn as much.

Plewis said...

we would never learn anything , a 4 day school week would impact our education a lot . And teachers wouldn't get to teach as much because of the shortage of time limit they give us...

i believe that a four day school week would be cool because we would get more time off school but we wouldnt learn as much as we need to. saturday school is too much. were already there long enough and learning what we need to learn. i think everything should stay how it is.

Beth Cornele said...

I think a four day school week would impact our eduction because we will not be learning as much as we would with a 5 day week. Plus they would have to cram a bunch of stuff in in a week because useally monday-thursday we learn what we need to this week and then friday we have a quiz over everything. I know that it's only a one day difference but it would be a big change. Saturday school would just turn into a train wreck here in ohio because that is our day off here and no body would come because we need a break and i would be one that didn't show up there's no reason why we should have saturday school if there is a 5 day school week.

issac,Splashhn said...

i think if you had school on saturday, some kids might go insane. everyone needs a litte break. because 6 days of school there'd be some angry kid's.

todjnemilton1 said...

a four day school week would impact us a lot i think because were so use to having 5 days and it will make us have to learn more in less time and we will have to cram it all in which will make it hard on us. and i know i would personally hate saturday school because that is a day that we always had off and i think it should continue to be that way.

4 days a week of school would mean that we would have to do a lot more work than what we do now if we used saturday that is our weekend and no one would want to come because they might have work or other things to do with their family

Anonymous said...

Having to come to school 4 days a week would benefit a lot of people. Especially the ones that has responsibilities, like teen parents or working students. Going to school 5 days a week is not that bad either since it's been scheduled like that since who knows when. The idea of Saturday school is just a bad idea, considering that almost half of the students don't wanna be in school, the reason why some skips their classes.

Anonymous said...

A four day school week would most likely impact our learning and overall test scores. I feel like we are America and China is China. We should not do what they do, because it would help. If we had school on saturdays, nobody would come unless they are all about school and what not. I would not come if we had school in the sumer or on saturdays.

Sowens1 said...

I believe our 5 day school weeks are more ideal. Although, if we were to go for longer hours, we would learn much more over time. It's been proven many times that kids in other countries are scoring better on tests than Americans. So obviously there's something we need to fix. One of the problems is that students don't spend their full time in school actually learning. I feel like if we had stricter rules we would be able to help kids spend their time in class learning.

Anonymous said...

I think that if we had saturday school that most kids would not show up to school but other than that i think it would be helpful because we would get out of school in like april. If we had a 4 day week kids would be more happy about that but we wouldn't get out until july.

casiewells3 said...

A four day weekend would like impact my life! More work, homework, less lessons, and less learning. I lie it this way because this is how i grew up going to school this is way i want to end going to school. Just enough work for me, plenty of lessons and learning for me. But i think a four day is stupid and if they were to change it it would impact/affect alot of peoples lives.

Austin Gibson 3 said...

I don't see fit in a 4 day week because teachers barely have enough time to teach as it is. Plus if we did go to a 4 day how many kids do you honestly think would come? We would never learn anything we need to if we switched our 5 day week to 4 days.

frongia1 said...

I think that china is smart in having saturday school because they are making their children much more educated than those of other countries. China is a very smart and educated country. Why do you think they are so successful in the trading industry?? Because they know what they're doing. China is much more advanced than many other countries. I think that Saturday would be a waste of time because most likely no one would show up because it is our time off of school and if they took that away no one would be happy about that and students would rebel by not attending Saturday school. I know I wouldn't wanna go to school on a Saturday. It would impact or education though because we would be learning a lot more and students would be more educated and most likely would succeed further in life.

daiquanewhite4 said...

i think that being in school for 4 days i week would greatly impact the school system.i think this because a lot of students aren't learning enough now with 5 days a week, so why would you shorten the week. i think that saturday school wouldn't be a good idea because people are not going to go because they hardly go to tuesday schools and friday schools, so why would they want to get up in the morning on a weekend to go to school

christina.c4 said...

having a 4 day week could be good and bad yea we might not get to do all of the stuff but think if we knock out the stuff we dont need to to no that wont help us in the real world. and to solve another problem we could just have a block system witha 4 day week learning stuff on certain days sure ur class will be an hour to and hour an a half but its worth it. and no saturday school thing cause ps i wont come to it lol just sayin

johnna said...

in a four day week we wouldn't learn much and if there was a saturday school, i think less kids would come to school because that is the day your suppose to have a break from it.

keekee123 said...

i think that saturday school would be point less because if they made school on saturdays no one would go they will stay at home an have fun for their weekend. also the teachers wouldnt like it because that means that thats an extra day they have to look at us an they wouldnt like that plus we would get out of school way to early because there wouldnt be nothing else for us to do

marykatew4 said...

I believe that China has a good educational system, but it is only good for them. In the United States we are not disciplined enough for the Saturday school plan. I believe a 4 day school plan would worsen our education because the statistics show we already have a lot less schooling than other countries. I do not think Saturday would be a good affect on education because in the United States we do not have the discipline to go to school on Saturdays, yet alone the other 5 days.

danielleg5 said...

i think a 4 Day week would impact our education because we wouldn't learn that much in that short period of time. having school on Saturday? i don't like that because the weekend is what i look forward too!

shannonkirby5 said...

a 4 day school week would impact our education by making us do more work in one day because we wouldnt have five days to get it done. there would probably be more test during the week too. WRAPPPP ! & we all know if they added saturday school , no one would show up cus its the weekend. the days we sleep in & party all night ! (:

TylerThaCreator said...

a four day school week would impact our education cause we would have to move on faster an not have as much time to spend on a subject because we gotta cram 7 more hours of work within four days of time.
and if we added saturday to the school week ALOT of kids would rebell, because thats always been our day off an if they just addded saturday most kids would not go because thats sopposed to be our day off.

taylormorgan66 said...

if our school went to four day weeks our education and test scores would decrease dramatically. more kids grades would fall and i feel like kids would drop out alot more. also teachers would not have any time to teach anything.

Ceara Barker5 said...

I think a four day school week would be bad for our education. We would have three days to forget what we learned and we would probably have a day full of homework.

James Pierson 5 said...

I dislike the idea of school imposing on chinese kids weekends, as opposed to the american way of doing things where I don't have to worry about my weekend being clogged. A four day school week would be different and may improve production due to more rest. However, no one would show for saturday school.

Taylor Williamson6 said...

4day school week? Hmm well I don't think that would be a good idea. We would have to work extra hard just to keep our grades up. And do a lot more work then what we do now. Saturday school wouldnt be a good idea either. Cause us students like our weekends to get our rest and also have more time to hang out with friends.

"Summer learning loss" is no joke. When they return to school in late August or early September, many children, especially the least advantaged among them, have shed a sizable portion of what they had learned by May—a full month's worth, by most estimates, adding up to 1.3 school years by the end of high school.

I think that chinas schooling schedule is kind of smart. Why not get schooling out of the way faster? I think if the U.S. has the same schedule, we would have more oprotuneties and we would have less unemplyment. but id probably be SUPER tired. If we started at a young age though, i could get used to it.

Corey Estes 6 said...

I would much rather prefer a 4 day school week, we could still do just as much work in those four days as we could in five if we scheduled everything out right.

karlaknott said...

i think that a 4 day week would be easier for the kids but it would not be a lot of time for the kids to learn. on the other side a 5 day week put stress on the kids but it gives them a lot of time to work on their class & homework

and we would want to leave school much faster.
it would also effect the length of the school year because teachers would need more time to teach what the didn't have time too during the four day school week..

I think a 4 day school week would also impact our education, with longer days it would effect are ability to do good school work. I don't think the US should base our educational needs on China's school hours. I also think it would mess with our parents work schedules. I also feel Saturday school would be considered a punishment. We are use to our schedules as our parents schedules when they went to school. I feel longer school days and Saturday school would cause more drop outs.

for one id hate to live in asia because i couldn't do school for that long of time, but i like the idea of 4 day weeks over here in the us. countries that have experimented with year long schooling are a little sadistic in my opinion, compared to our 180 day school year

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, school should just stay the way it is. There is no point in changing it, there's more important things to worry about in the United Stated, contemplating whether of not we should go to school on Saturday is not important at all. I don't mind having school 5 days a week, cutting it down to 4 days would result in more homework and we probably won't learn as much as we did before.

amber.r1 said...

I believe that the united stated does need to have a 4 day school week with saturday school and more weeks and hours of learning. If we don't we will be over ran by the ones with the greater education. In the article it states they have 30% more learning hours than we do, this is a high percentage and over time could caculate to them being 100% smarter and more educated. We need to pick up our speed of learning to match theirs so we can have the same education as these other places.

Djook said...

i think what we have been doing is great....a 5 day week splits up the work if it was a 4 day week we would have to pick up the slack of the other day. it would just be to much kids are stressed out enough with a 5 day and the work.
