I thought about this before, i wanted to do a lawn service with my brothers but it didn't work out well. We would cut a couple peoples grass a week but with the change of weather it kind of depended on the weather, whether or not if you could cut grass or not.

I have been looking for a job all summer long. It is probably the hardest thing to get right now. Everyone wants a job but it's not that simple as to just putting in an application and getting the job. You have to fill out an application and turn it in then call over and over again until you finally convince them that you are worthy of an interview and them even still they may not hire you. It is a hard process and takes a lot of dedication and commitment. I had a job a few summers ago and quit because I didn't like my boss. I realized that was a huge mistake because I have not found a job since. The economy is really bad and jobs are being lost everyday so to go get hired is a thing of luck. I think the economy has made me want a job even more because my mom can't really afford to give me all the things I want. She really has no spare money so I would like a job, so I can buy my own things and so I can buy them when I want to. Having a job would give me a sense of freedom.

I was really impressed by this article. These teenagers have found a way to work around their own schedules, be their own boss, and do something they like while making more money than they could anywhere else. I was shocked when I read that Josh Bostick had made 15,000 in one year from his lawn care business. Not only are these teens raising a lot of money, but they are saving it for college and donating some of the profit. This article really made me think about what I could do besides working at the job I have now.

this article shocked me when i seen how much money these kids made, just by doing something like washing cars and just from doing this they can have their college paid for and everything,

ahamilton513@gmail.com said...

i wanted to do the same thing but there isnt much for a teen in the workforce and odd jobs pay to little

keekee123 said...

This article actually amazed me just to know that something as simple as washing cars could make me that much money, it makes me really consider finding something that i'm very good at an turning it in to my job. its just amazing to still be able to see an know that young people in the world can still do somethings with each other an on their own.

I've looked most of the summer for a job. Due to the lack of a car or the license to drive one, I can't really go out of middletown to get to a job. I still have not been hired anywhere, which sucks. I do believe the economy has something to do with it, but also the fact that a lot of the people at M.U.M where getting jobs during the summer too. But yes I believe the economy has something to do with it.

...I really need a new amp.

Anonymous said...

I tried to find a job all Summer, it's just so difficult with the economy because if you don't have your license then it's hard to get a job and it's expensive to pay for Insurance, Gas and Driving school. So I was basically stuck. I never really thought about staring my own business because I don't believe I have what it takes. If I did then I would open an Animal Shelter. I would really love to have a career in being a Security Guard or an Animal Investigator.

B. Yes , I did find me a job this summer and people say its hard but you have to stay motivated. Im not saying this because i already have a job but because I've applied for other stores & didn't receive a call back. But, I didn't let that stop me. I applied more & stayed calling letting the manager know i was interested and it paid off. Now , working hours are a different story ... smh

B: i found a job this year it was very tuff and a big struggle. All it took was time. Just try your hardest and you will be able to get your own money. I believe the struggle of the economy is the reason why it took so long. But now im making my own money its all going well :) TGOD

I found Josh Bostick's from Flower Mound, Texas interesting. Mostly because as a child my mother would let me wash her car every couple of weeks for 10 dollars. Three or Four Months Later, she found 135 dollars that i'd been saving. She then Told me that I'd be good at washing cars for money

Yes, i have found a job for the summer. And I'm thankful that I got it because my aunt helped me get it and I'm a teenager. But the slow economy has not impacted my desire and ability to find a job because I have job and if i didn't i would still try my hardest to get one or find a way to make money.

I've been looking for a job all summer but nowhere wants to hire teenagers since jobs are scarce and they want people who are experienced, not inexperienced. But I think it's a really good idea to start your own business before college. Especially in this economy. It a good way to get started for your future.

shannonkirby5 said...

These stories are interesting. It not that easy finding a job. It takes time & patience . These kids are young & if they can start their own business , anyone can. You just have to look in the right places, fill out apps , & keep calling to let them know you want & need the job.You got to get along with the people around you no matter how they act, you have to be the bigger person .

I have found a summer . it was very hard trying to find a job but finally at the end of the summer i got a job that i thought was nice :) . I filled out about 20 applications and its hard finding a job seeing that were in middletown and all its not that much of an option. i would cal everyday but nobody was hiring or they wouldnt call you back or nothing . so trying to find a job was a real tough thing to do before i got a job and now im looking for a new one.

This article really impressed me because teenagers create their own kind of summer job around their schedule. I have a summer job with working in my mom's daycare and even after school too, i would probably do this until I get a real steady job but for right now i'm good

All teens have there on different thing they like to do to make money. If we don't have a job we baby-sit, mow the lawn, have back sales, throw parties, ect. Me personally if i wont to make money I will watch kids. If someones needs to do something for a couple of hours i will tell them i can watch there kids for ten dollars per child.

It is for sure hard to get a job right now. It's also no very easy to start your own business, but it can work. Instead of getting turned down by other business' it seems like if you work hard enough you can start your own and still make decent money over time. I think starting a business is a good idea if you know what you're doing and have the skills to run the business.

But then the whole block started buying them and they made a whole bunch of new friends. Parents started buying them for their kid's birthdays and just for the fun of it... Its only like a summer thing, but they continued selling the 50 cent pet rocks all year round. They don't do it any more but they had a lot of fun with it. I might actually help them start it back up this coming christmas(:

A Way Out - Meadow Bob's story really interested me. She took the risk of using her $30 to buy the snow cone kit when she didn't even know it would be a success. I also think its great how she thought about the other children at school and about how snow cones are much more refreshing than lemonade. She ended up with a good amount of money after the two summers. She made something of herself, it wasn't huge but it helped people out and also helped her out.

Over the 3 months we had off for school I looked for a job the whole to make some money to put gas in my car and to buy me some things for me thats needed. I have applied over 13 places and called everyday to check on my applications. And still no calls this economy has became awful! looking for a job is by far the hardest thing to do right now. You have to put your all into it and even then you might not get the job but someone else that didn't try at all gets hired thats the most annoying part of it all for me.

I found a job this summer. I thought before i found my job that it was the impossible. Hiring young people is behind hiring laid off college graduates and others that may have a family, before a teenager. I got a job a year later than i had wanted to because of the low demand for teenage workers. Even today i can still tell that my job struggled hiring me. Some nights i may get sent home because im young, so i will be the first to go when labor is higher than sales.

I think it is harder these days for teenagers to get jobs because even adults are having trouble getting jobs these days so starting your own business is an awesome idea. It could be your future that your starting instead of working at some fast food place that you will eventually hate, make up something that you love to do and find a way to make money with it. It's the best thing to do. My father is a business owner and he is a complete success in what he does and he loves it. So, its a great idea and remember you are your own boss(: you make the rules.

*Its not just Lemonade stands*

I think that teenagers should create their own jobs AND businesses because some companies dont accept teens for work. They want someone who has JOB EXPERIENCE & GOOD WORK ETHIC. Personally i think that its descrimination against teenagers when some adults are really... dumb. I bet that a lot of teens can do some adult jobs better than the adults themselves can. And its hard for us to find after school hours that we dont have to be out until 10 or 11 at night. So yes, creating your own job is a very intelligent move if you ask me(:
