I'm betting most of us in this room have a Facebook account..........am I right? Read this article and read what some people are having to do due to their use of social networking.
This is your final article - Due date May 16th.
i think that people should just watch what they put online because its common sense that people all over the world can see what you put online so just think before you speak.
Its not that hard to avoid putting something bad or wrong on your face book page or take it down. If your career or job is at risk you should take every precaution to ensure that you keep it. Plus no one cares if you take down an awesome picture or video of you online. And if they do they will get over it. Your future and reputation is more important.
I think that it is stupid that your job may look at your profile to see what you are like. People are completely different from there business and social life. I think its an invasion of privacy.
I think putting pictures online that could give you a negative reputation are bad anyways! I don't understand why people do this to begin with, they only make you look trashy. Let alone, your job seeing them won't help you at all. I believe social networking has it's good points, but could possibly ruin ones life if not handled correctly.
I don't know if I am okay with letting jobs and colleges look at social networking sites of appliers. I don't think it has anything to do with school work or business. But on the other hand, people should watch what they do post online and make sure that they don't post anything they will regret later on.
I feel tht it shoud be fine to have a facebook an twiter as long as you dont put obseen pictures of you and put nasty comments on them.jus wacth what you pt online. But sometimes you cant control it cuz what if you get intoxicatied an one of your friends record you being stupid then what??
I think this is just all about common sense. If you think something posted on a social network that will affect your reputation, then you just simply don't do it. People are just stupid and don't really care too much if they let something like facebook affect your work space.
i think it would help if people didn't put there personal business on facebook , i mean yes you can express your feeling but not your whole life. and if people feel the need to put crazy stuff on a social network, business thats messed up don't blame they because your ex husband works for them and u want to get even so you post some stuff on there . personal at that not cool.
social networking is private yes people cant see it but what you post online pics or comment your job does not have the right to say something its your life not theirs
I think it's okay to have a facebook/twitter or whatever it is that you have. But i do think if you have one, you shouldn't put crazy pictures or crazy posts to make you look unprofessional. Like don't use profanity on there because when your boss looks at it, they'll think that you're unprofessional.
A way to fix all the meeting online stuff is people jus dont put your information online, they know almost the whole world can see it, so watch what you do, its that simple.. Most people hat post bad things online, their chances are not going to get a good enuff jobs if they are not watching their selves online..
I DONT THINK THAT JOBS SHOULD BE ABLE TO LOOK AT STUFF THAT YOU POST ONLINE BECAUSE WHAT IF YOU WAS YOUNGER WHEN HAD PICTURES OR OTHER STUFF THAT JOBS DON LIKE I DON THINK THEY SHOULD LOOK AT STUFF IN YOUR PAST. BUT IF YOU ARE DOIN STUFF THAT YOU SHOULDN OR POSTIN STUFF IF YOU DON THINK THEY WILL LIKE IT BUT THEY SHOULD AT IT NOW NOT FROM THE PAST.
I think businesses should be able to check what you post because it gives them a good idea of what type of person you are, an they can tell if your putting on a show at work.
I really do not think that jobs should have the right to check social networking sites. I think if you look like a good person to be hired, be hired. Whereas, if you look like someone who will be late or who will get arrested, do not be hired. But, on the other hand, if you do not post bad things, you shouldn't worry about it. But, if you do post bad things, such as nudity, then you should probably take it off!
honastly every one is being judged for what they post all over the internet most people are smart enough not too post things that could possibly cause them trouble but a lot of people arnt which causes them to lose there jobs lose collage scholarships the respect of their friends and family i think any who wants has the right to look at personal things you post on the internet because they arnt very personal if you post them for the entire world to see.
I think that jobs do have the right to to view our social network sites. We made them for a public viewing even if that wasn't your initial thought process it is what they were made for. So yes they do have a right to look at them and people need to realize that it is their fault if the jobs see something they don't want to see. If you posted it then you would've had enough sense to realize that someone might not like what you posted even if you were younger.
Yes we have a facebook account but i use facebook because i dont live with my dad he left to puerto rico like 5 month ago Im always online so i can talk with him tru facebook
Just because somebody has a facebook,Twitter, etc... does not mean anything bad. The problems start when they start doing or posting things they dont want employers to see. As long as you dont do anything bad or just dont put it on the internet you should be cool. A divorce isnt even a bad thing to me unless its one of those ugly million dollar cheating tiger woods ones but still, i wont judge someone off a personal thing like a marrige. Im proud to say theres nothing bad about me on the web and never will be, except my transcript. ( Joke )
Honestly, it is not that hard to watch what you put online. If you are afraid that i job will disapprove then its as easy as not putting it online. Although, i do understand the thing about ex's. When my parents first split there was a lot of mud slinging going on. Sometimes it did venture on to the internet unfortunately, but in the bright side it was on Facebook, where if someone says something nasty about you on your wall you can very easily delete it. But i think that these companies are way too expensive for something that can be easily avoided or explained in an interview.
Social Networks have helped many people like disabled people or people that have long lost family or friends. So it has helped many lives but it can also ruin many lives. For example people posting thinks about their job or themselves which can cost them jobs or any other opportunities. So social networks have become and bad.
I do think social networking is bad for some, but thats where responsibility comes into play. I feel it is very important to watch what you put online because theres always someone watching.
Companies are too paranoid about who they hire. If they don't trust you that much for an interview to suffice then you might not want to work there. It's bull that they have to resort to looking you up on facebook a background check will do the same thing even better
First off i love this article. I am one of those people who can't stand having a facebook, myspace or any of that. i feel that the posts and pictures people are putting on these sites now can definitely hurt them in the future. Future employers can and will check those to know about the person. Plus people need to think that in the future how their children will be able to see the good and bad about their parents
I honestly dont think that your Boss should lok at your profile, that is your personal life and they dont need to look at it. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace all them social networks are garbage anyways. they will ruin someone.
I think that all these web sites are good to meet new people an to see new things but i think what is really getting people in trouble is they don't watch what they put on these web sites. I think you should watch what you put on these web sites cause if you don't it can coast you.
I think people have become a little too obsessed with online communities these days people spend hours a day on their computers and escape pretty much from everyday life it actually becomes quite sad after a while its pretty pathetic. And people also become quite careless about what they put on their account people will research that to find out things about you
I do believe that employment places should be able to look at networks such as Facebook and Twitter if they want to know more about a person that they might hire. It's good strategy to know what you're getting into if you decide to hire that person.
Everyone should just watch what they post online because even if you delete it there is always a way to find it again. Anyone can look at it even if you have blocks on it. Theres always away to get around things. internet has no privacy.
i think that empolyment places should be able look up your back ground to see what type of person you are so they wont hire someone who they dont want them to work for.
If i was an employer hiring someone or a college i would look at their facebooks because if they had dirty trashy pictures up or had inapprpriate posts up about drining or smoking or something then ill already know how they truly are. but then again i do believe people can act completely differnt outside of school and work.
I think that it is sad that we have to hire people to make us look good on the internet. If people would be a little smarter about what they say on facebook and twitter then they would know that that it is not acceptable to put up risque photos and comments talking about drinking smoking fighting and any other inappropriate activities. My policy is that if you wouldn't say it to your grandmother then you shouldn't say it to facebook either
I think if a person is trying to hire someone and they need to look on any of these websites to see how they are its ok. They just want to see how they really are and see if they want to hire them or not.
i dont think people should post some of the things they post o facebook & myspace . but no one really uses myspace like that anymore . every one either has a twitter or facebook . the thing i like about twitter is you follow who you want , where on facebook its a mutual friendship . which sucks because maybe you dont care nor want to know what some people have to say .
If people dont want things on the internet then they shouldnt put the stuff on it in the first place. People get mad when things are said about stuff thats found on the internet about them, but most of its their own fault that the stuff can be found. People really need to watch what they put on facebook, twitter, and sites like that. Even if you think you deleted it, most the time it can still be found
people shouldnt be so ignorant and put dumb things on the internet in the first place and if they think they will then they dont need to make account on sites cause their just going to set themselves up for disaster
You need to be very careful on what you post online. If you apply for a job and the manager looks at your facebook and you have something on there thats bad, they won't hire you. If you apply for college or anything else, they will look up everything you have ever posted and will judge your personality on what you post.
i think that companys checking on your scocial network website is wrong because its what you di in your personal life not what you doin in your work life. and i think that its only good for like big companys and like goverment agencys.
I think people should not get on these websites. And if they do they need to not put any personal information on there. Or any information that will come back in the future to haunt them. FACEBOOK is the new social network. It should be called DRAMA BOOK ! Everybody is on there acting immature . When people do background searches on you and your facebook pops up and they click on it they will see how you really act or how you respond to ignorancy. So please be smart if your deciding on getting on any social networks and be careful.
I think that having companies check someones social networking places is a good idea. If I was investing money in someone I would want to check out what kind of person they are. If people have bad stuff on their facebook there not serious about getting a job. In the article it talks about people paying alot of money just to get there name cleared online. Thats crazy you should never be at that point in the first place..
if you mind jobs and colleges getting on your personal profile you obviously have things to hide. things you didnt want to get out. so people should be careful with what they put on their status or when they post things can your reputation can be at risk
it shoud be fine to have a facebook an twiter as long as you dont put obseen pictures of you and put nasty comments on them.If people have bad stuff on their facebook there not serious about getting a job.
I think that its good that employers look online to see what things you say and do online because you dont wanna hire someone who is starting drama and is causing more problems than there worth
i think that facebook, myspace, twitter and other internet web sites should not be created. all its doing is making the person that made it get rich but people put nasty pics an all their info out and thats bad
i actually like these social networks . but i dont believe people should put unappropiate things on there . people can look that stuff up & you could get in big trouble for things you put on the internet . if your careful what you say then its a good , fun thing .
